2nd Rangers at Pointe du Hoc, Normandy 1944
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7804/1937/400/%20Pointe%20du%20Hoc%20800.jpg)
This is a painting I had done a few years back. It's about the 2nd Rangers scaling the cliff of Pointe du Hoc during D-day, 1944. Their mission was to destroy the German batteries on top of the cliff but finding the guns were moved away when they finally got to the top. It's my first attempt to do a military art limited edition print, feedback is quite good, I even have five 2nd Ranger veterans who were in action during D-day signed on 5 of these Ranger prints and is still in my collection.

Marine at Guadalcanal
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7804/1937/400/MarineGuadalWIP1.jpg)
Here's another painting that I am working at the moment, a Marine at Guadalcanal. I haven't paint the trees at the background yet and the clouds needed to be more refine. For the Marine uniform, more detail will be needed to enhance the look and texture of the herringbones jacket. This will be part of my military art series of US soldiers.

Samurai drawings
![](http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7804/1937/320/abara%20do-sk500.jpg)
Attached is a sketch that I am working on and may develope into a full color painting. It's a Japanese samurai that's supposed to be in the Momoyama period ( about 1600 AD ) . The armour represents the bare torso of the starving Buddha. Also, I had done a painting of Takeda Shingen 2 months ago ( see below ). The painting depicted him just before the Fourth Battle of Kawanakajima in 1561. Bigger image can be seen at : Takeda Shingen

Tiger I markings: Errors and questions
For those who are interested in WWII Tiger tanks, especially about the camo painting and markings, Panzer Color 1, 2 and 3 are the three books which provide some essential knowledge about the tank. However, there are a number of errors with their info and here's a web page that listed some of the obvious errors found in the books. Tiger Markings:Errors, Myths & Questions

Kursk Tiger

The German Tiger tank has always been my favorite WWII AFV. So it's kind of natural Tiger I came right up to my mind when I decided to do a tank profile for my military art limited edition prints. I had painted the LAH Tiger 1313 ( in dark yellow and red brown camouflage ) about 8 years ago, but since then new information about the camo scheme are published in more recent books such as Tiger in Combat II. It's seems more likely the tank was in dark yellow base color and painted over with dark green stripes. Upon checking wartime photo of the tank 1313 at Kursk, there were obvious darker color stripes at the side of the tank which seems more likely to be some red brown paint or mud being added in an ad hoc manner. Shown here is the Tiger I313 profile and a close up view. The painting is not finished yet as I am still working on the minor details.

Hi all,
This is my first blog and I am still exploring all the settings. As the title goes, this blog is to share my thoughts and WIP (work in progres ) about my military art and researches. Here's a painting which I had finished last month. It's a soldier from the 101st Airborne Division at Normandy. The background is the church at St. Marie du Mont. For anyone who is interested in seeing more of my art, you are welcome to check out my site at http://www.vincentwai.com
