Polish Winged Hussar

For anyone who is interested in Polish Winged Hussar, the book "Husaria The Winged Horsemen " ( ISBN 83-223-2682-3 ) is a worthwhile photo reference. The book is in both Polish and English text and comes with a lot of photos of the armor and weapons used by the Winged Hussar ( shown here with a scan of the page with various helmets. Another book about the subject is the Art in Poland ( ISBN 0-88397-131-3 ) which also contains very nice ( and large photos ) of the Winged Hussar's armor and weapons. And to see the hussars in action, "With Fire and Sword" is also a nice reference too.

Both books helped me a lot in sculpting my 120mm Winged Hussar ( see images below ). The model was sculpted in 1999, material used is Sculpey and took me 3 months to finish the model. It won me a gold medal at the 2000th MMSI's ( Military Miniature Society of Illinois ) Chicago Show.

352nd Infantry Division

This is a figure that I am working on this weekend: a soldier from 352nd Infantry Division in Normandy 1944. It's now halfway finished except the rifle sling and the grenade tucked to the waist belt. Will post the finished image when it's done.

It's been snowing here in Toronto this week, well finally. So apart from painting, my other job is to clear the snow in front of my house:-(

KV1-E

I had been drawing more soviet tanks than anything in the last few years. Most of them are T-34s and KVs. Here's a KV that I'd drawn last year, it's a KV1 model 1940 s ekranami (with appliqué), or KV1-E. Armed with a F-32 gun, it was manned by a crew of 5. At the start of the German invasion, the German Army had few weapons that could knock out these KV tanks because of it's thick armour.

German Railroad Gun : 280mm K5(E) Leopold

Last night, I looked through my my piles of backup with all my illustration works dated back from 1995 to now and seems like journey through the last ten years. I can see my style changed a lot and there were works that I particularly fond of and works that I don't like. The Leopold which was done in 2003 is an important one to me. Before the Leopold, I'd stopped painting for almost 3 years and it's this painting that's sparked my interest in military painting again.
